RHINOPLASTY/ NOSE SURGERY
A rhinoplasty is a cosmetic procedure that alters the nose’s shape. The purpose of rhinoplasty may be to alter the nose’s appearance, enhance breathing, or both.
The front part of the nose is bony, and the lower part- cartilage.
Rhinoplasty is done to make either soft tissue changes i.e., appearance and at the same time bony changes can also be made, depending on the need of the patient.

Rhinoplasty can alter the shape,size and the proportion of the nose.
Indicated in cases of
1)injury to nose
2)Correction of birth defects,
3)To improve breathing (deviated nasal septum)
After the surgery
After the surgery you need to rest in bed with your head elevated,which helps in reducing bleeding and swelling. Nose will be congested for a few days post surgery,because of swelling and from the splints that are in position.
The splints will be in position for about 1 week and the splints are taped.
There might be slight bleeding and drainage of mucus and old blood from the operated site for a few days,which reduces gradually.
To further decrease the bleeding and swelling, the following precautions may be taken,
Strenous physical activities to be avaoided such as running, contact sports
Do not blow your nose
Diet should contain high fiber foods,
Gently brush your teeth
Do not wear sunglasses,
Very minimal changes made to the structure of the nose often make a large difference.
Advised to wait for a minimal period of time for complete desirable changes as discussed.
Pre-op and Post-op photos are taken to give you an idea of what changes have been done in the surgery.
Is rhinoplasty painful?
Post-op pain will subside in 3-5 days and analgesics will help reduce the intensity.
Will you pack my nose?
Splints that are placed during surgery will be in position for 7 days which can make you feel uncomfortable.
